I am debating whether I should get a Honda Fit or Scion xD.
Honda Fit looks better than Scion xD from the outside.
But Honda Fit has less horsepower.
Since Honda Fit has a 1.5L engine and 117hp, does Honda Fit goes SLOW on highway compare to Toyota Matrix or Scion xD with approx 128hp? is there a big difference?

I actually own a Toyota Matrix and I just test drive a Honda Fit. I don't feel a big difference on the horsepower. But the Honda Fit takes a little more time to speed up. They both go quite smooth on highways.

No Doubt!

What really ticks me off is some people dont even own a car and will post -ve responses just because their neighbor's friend's cousin's brother's friend had a bad experience with the car because s/he was so dumb to take care of it or forgot to top off the oil in the engine. The response was to the people who bad mouth Scion and yet praise Toyota. A news flash for those people, Scion is part of Toyota, just pop the hood and you will see the T of toyota on the engine.

Now back to your question Steph. Both are great commuter cars. Neither one of them will win you a drag race contest or break a track record, but they both will take you from point A to B with out any problem because both of them are extremely reliable and fuel efficient cars. Now if you are looking for a car with style, steer away from xD because lets face it, its not a pretty looking car. Plus the interior has parts of shiny areas in black color. They look good at first but then they start showing smudges, dirt and scratch marks. Fit on the other hand is better looking car. They both have almost same gas consumption but Fit is comparatively bigger in every dimension, and as far as I have read and heard its more fun to drive or like cousin will say, Funner to drive. The downside, because its Honda, expect to pay premium price. The MSRP of the base manual is 14750, where as MSRP of xD is 14650. You can try to haggle a little over xD because not too many people like the looks and you may end up getting free mats but on Fit, well you may pay premium.

If you are looking into a more powerful car for less money, may I suggest Suzuki SX4. A base model starts at 13300, comes with 2.0l 143 hp engine, with 100,000 miles powertrain warranty, comes standard with Traction and Stability control but it gives 22/30 mpg. I havent heard anyone saying anything bad about it.

Hope this helps.

Both cars are what I like to call gutless

Don't expect any decent power from either of them. If I were you I would go with the Fit, just because I absolutely despise scions. The honda should be a nice car to drive and will last you forever.

The Honda Fit is a sharper handling car, with better feedback and dynamics, whereas the Scion is more of an appliance. Both are top rated in reliability and are economical. Both are responsible choices, so it's up to your personal preference, but I like the Fit.

Just traded in a 2007 Fit because we needed a bigger car.

No kidding, it was the best car we ever had. Can't speak to the new model, but the '07 was phenomenal. Great fuel economy and the fold up seats are very handy. Highway handling is good, but like all small cars it's better around town.

My wife drove the xD once and said it was also a good car.

Both are top rated, so you can't go wrong.

BTW, with the current credit mess you may want to consider keeping you Matrix and getting away from new debt.
