A 1988 Buick would be better for a new driver. No 16 year old needs a new car. After they have been driving for a while would be the time to think about a newer ride.

Honestly, all those cars are made by Toyota. So they are going to be fuel effecient and as safe as a plastic box can be. There isn't much difference in them from what I can see. If those are the choices let the kid choose.
